Guinness World Record attempt
Something that caught my interest in the poker world today is a Guinness World Record attempt by Dave ‘Alfa’ Cain, from the UK will be attempting to create an endurance record for heads-up poker. He is hoping that this will also break the record for the longest time an individual has continuously played poker. This record currently stands at 72 hours and 2 minutes, and was set by Larry Olmsted from the USA in the year 2004. The event was staged from 10th to 13th June.
Dave says he will be playing as many opponents as possible on a continuing basis and the attempt will be based on hours of continuous play of heads up poker. The games will all be with a deep starting stack and of course will be for money as Dave is aiming to raise funds for St. Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, and also for Louth and District Hospice. He says that all the proceeds of his wins will go to the charities, as well as a percentage of any winnings that his opponents may get, to maximise the funds raised for the charities.
Guinness have accepted the claim (number 221852) and supplied all their guidelines and stipulations for the attempt, which as you can imagine are complex and far ranging. The venue will be The Library Bar, in the middle of the Lincoln university campus, which is a 24 hour licensed bar. The Library bar has a raised platform in the centre of the room which will allow the poker table to be positioned clearly and in view of all, but without compromising the other bar users. It should also have a good view for the continuous live web cam that will be showing the event on Dave’s website. I wish Dave the best of luck.
